For a substantial amount of money (279$cad+taxes for the most basic room for our experience), the "Château Frontenac" provides you the opportunity to waste a lot of money. The hotel is absolutely breath-taking from the inside to the outside. We spoke to other guests who had the same poor experience. This is a fabulous hotel. Perfect way to spend a Christmas vacation. The hotel foyer is "must see", particularly at Christmas, whether you are staying there or not; it has that feeling of historic grandeur. While not the cheapest of hotels, the Chateau Frontenac is the perfect location and has the magical feel that makes up for the dent in your pocket. There is nowhere in the hotel to sit and enjoy a cocktail or a glass of wine. It seemed as if all of the restaurants were staffed with new employees that hadn't been trained and at a staffing level significantly below need. The newly renovated hotel is outstanding. Fantastic decor, best slide near hotel, most comfortable and tasteful bar to come to warm up after you enjoy the magic of white Christmas in Quebec .We were lucky with the beautiful Signature room with the amazing view over the river, boardwalk and the old city. Since then, the hotel has been expertly renovated. We are delighted you enjoyed your experience at The Champlain for your Christmas dinner. While the waiter was more attentive to the children, we were seated incredibly late, were not served until almost 10pm (despite the fact that management said they would do their best to accommodate our 8pm reservation and the fact that we had kids), food and drinks arrived all wrong and not together, so many of us waited, and the other half had cold food. Our visit was in the depth of a severe winter storm period, so the hotel location was brilliant for seeing old Quebec City without having to stay out too long.
