The system and setting is rocksolid, makes fun and with the advent of AI expansions / app capable of a fully coop experience. It's one of those games that's got an amazing appeal and a craptastic execution. Kickstarter & Spieleschmiede Podcast. okay, one regret. To me, it didn't feel like a dungeon crawler. It is a fantastic one-shot dungeon crawler. Mostly my position too. Immediate flip on arrival and I have zero regrets. Whether you want to trust them to pull a win out of what's starting to look like another faceplant is up to you. September 2020, #109 - Mercado de Lisboa, Riftforce, Streets, Der perfekte Moment ... Crowdfunding-Podcast 9. I still remember when my kickstarter was on the way and I went to go have a look at the forum on bgg…and found 78 threads under variants filled with people trying to fix the game balance. You can watch it here: Massive Darkness 2 announcement The first game definitely had faults, the campaign mode was especially unbalanced and an afterthought, however, the one-shot missions were fantastic. This is the definition of a cmon game for the miniatures for me, but the last one was great if you wanted a bunch of mini's for a roleplaying campaign. Enemy AI is basically " swarm the closest thing". Massive Darkness is a snack. Massive Darkness 2 is zombicide with class mini games, so very slightly above the complexity of a zombicide with a much longer teach. I'm considering backing Massive Darkness 2: Hellscape on Kickstarter but wondered where the first version of the game sat within people's opinion on dungeon crawlers. No, it wasn’t. descent or imperial assault is a better version of this game if you wanted a campaign but dont think they are as epic in a one shot format, I took a chance on Dungeon Crusade. It wasn’t a flop at all. You are rolling a lot of dice, getting gear, putting it on a little tray, and everything levels up with your highest leveled character during the round. I can afford this due to lots of available income, still if I'd have to chose between the two it'd be Descent 3rd edition... if only by the merrits of their earlier versions. Join our community! If you like mechanics and tight scenario design, nothing touches gloomhaven. Massive Darkness is by far my worst purchase. CMON claims MD2 will fix many of the well known issues from the original game but I would wait for retail if I was you. While Gloomhaven is definitely the better game, to get that same sense of progression is going to be a much larger time commitment. You have simplistic objectives that are generally go to a location and interact with a thing and then kill a thing, and a few static 3x3 tiles to make up maps. September 2020 #107 - Brettspiel News, BGG Hotness, Most Played & Blog-Votings - Podcast 26. I still have fun almost every time I play their games, and fun is why I play. Honestly, JitD beats Gloomhaven for me too; there's no excitement to GH, every combat is just a puzzle to solve with a little bit of randomness thrown in. I saw "all of it" being listed for big bucks and few of it selling. Plus the campaignsystem was a trainwreck that was obviously only thrown in because backers demanded it, without any oversight or thought. Sanctum is a push your luck game with light character building elements. Massive Darkness was badly designed and poorly playtested. P.S. It's a game that freshened up the dungeon crawling format for me. I haven't tried Journeys in Middle-Earth but Massive Darkness is pretty similar to its CMON cousin, Death May Die. This game is going to be a lighter but fun dungeon crawl if they fix the issues with MD. The Darkness and its hordes are flooding through, stronger than ever. That being said, I am backing Massive Darkness 2. I'd probably just grab the theme that interests you more - Fantasy or Lovecraftian. The non-mini games that they help produce can be good: Potion Explosion, The Grizzled, Railroad Ink, etc. You can watch it here: Massive Darkness 2 announcement.
